Please read everyone and keep an eye out for this bird.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-pets-birds-for-sale-Lost-African-Grey-W0QQAdIdZ289244060

Here is the owners story, published with permission.

I guess I got your email a little late. Our African grey
flew away on Sunday and after exhausting ourselves from searching …we have to
try and accept he is gone I have put an ad in our local paper, kijiji, and
posted some flyers. My husband made the mistake of thinking he wouldn’t fly
away from us and after only a few minutes he was gone. A very painful lesson we
have learned. We ended up clipping our birds ourselves so we wouldn’t have to
face this ever happening again. We did an ok job but they still need nails
done. Our grey is only 9 months old and we hand fed him since only 8 weeks old.
Needless to say we are devastated!
Please tell your customers to never take the chance even for a second!!!! omg

If we had of known for a second that it we were taking a chance of never seeing our bird again…we wouldn’t have brought him outside. Maybe a part of us knew that which is why we never took him out before…it was only 5 minutes. It could have been only 30 seconds. We are riddled with guilt and grief now. I knew it was a bad idea and should have told Mike NO WAY! bring him back inside!! but he was a little too convincing that he would be ok. Our Quaker flys around outside with us all the time and never goes anywhere…well he doesn’t go out side either now because we don’t want him clipped…and don’t want any surprises nor to ever feel this pain again. If others can learn from our mistake then by all means go ahead and share. I hope it saves just one bird from being allowed to go outside fully flighted.

On ocassion we get calls from individuals who either know or have come across a hoarding situation. There is nothing that we as a rescue can really do about it other than to suggest calling the SPCA. We have been contacted by the Animal Planet to get the word out that there is help out there. The show is called Confessions: Animal Hoarders on Animal Planet. If you are not familiar with the show, here’s the premise:

They try to work with family members, neighbours, friends, psychologists, social workers, etc. to help when people are in a situation where their homes have so many animals that they can’t provide proper care, and that their own lives are being jeopardized (ie: alienation from human companions).

In their first season, they had a series of successes helping people in these, “hoarding” situations–managing to get things under control before the situation deteriorated into one deemed to be criminal abuse.

Ths is not specific to to parrots but all animals. If you know of someone who needs help, please contact the link below.

http://www.animalhoardingproject.com/machform/view.php?id=1

I will post a permanent link on our links page as well.
