Birds

The birds are listed by category.  Please make sure when you fill out the adoption application that you are referring to birds that are actually available for adoption.  The categories are as follows.

Available for adoption – these are all the birds that are ready for new homes.  They have been assessed for behaviours and information about the best type of environment is posted in the birds description.

Newest Arrivals – These birds would have recently arrived at the rescue and may or may not end up for adoption.  At this point they are being assessed for behaviours, plucking, needs and what would make the ideal home for them.

Rehabilitation – These birds may or may not end up ready for adoption.  They all need behaviour modification for a variety of reasons.

Success Stories – These are what we are most proud of.  These are the birds that have found new forever families to share their lives with.

Permanent Residents – These birds will remain part of PASO for a variety of reasons.  Mostly due to the owners request or severe behaviour issues/medical issues.    This is only for exceptional reasons as we believe each and every bird deserves attention, love and a caring environment.  We try to keep the number of permanent residents to a minimum to ensure that each parrot here recieves that same type of attention.    We feel strongly about hoarding birds and so called sanctuaries that have 500 or 600 parrots and claim they can’t find homes or refuse to adopt out parrots believing they are the only ones capable of looking after them properly.  With those conditions, everyone loses.   The birds are kept in cramped cages too small for their species and beg for human attention.  We  will only take on what we are comfortable with.  We know there are wonderful homes that can provide a caring and appropriate environment for exotic birds.  We utilize foster homes when we feel we can not provide appropriate attention to all the birds here.
